One of the most attractive-looking games in the Premier League this weekend comes from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday as Champions League challengers Spurs and Aston Villa go head-to-head.
Spurs are no doubt entertaining, but they are really lacking consistency, looking like Barcelona one week, and Bromley the next. It is a squad with a lot of talent but you feel they need to add some steel to go along with all of the flair. Villa, on the other hand, have been a model of consistency since Unai Emery took the reigns. Where once this game may have come with a sense of trepidation for the Villains, now they will go to North London expecting to win.

This game is part of the Super Sunday lineup in the Premier League this weekend. It takes place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at 2.00pm, before the second Super Sunday game at Old Trafford as Man Utd take on Chelsea. Although Spurs got a great win in midweek in the League Cup against Man City, they will be looking to bounce back after defeat at Palace last weekend. Villa also haven’t won in their last two, drawing to Bournemouth in the league last week before exiting the Carabao Cup on Wednesday against Palace.

This is a game between two top four challengers, and the bookies think this could be a very even game. Spurs are having a very up and down campaign so far, showing flashes of brilliance in attack, such as the dismantling of Man Utd at Old Trafford, but also defensive fragility when they blew a two goal lead to lose at Brighton. Spurs fans are longing for a trophy, and they remained on course for that beating City in the cup on Wednesday, but top four is also very important. While Spurs often frustrate, one thing they usually bring to the table is goals and entertainment. Ange Postecoglou has never wavered from his belief in how he plays football, and despite criticism has stuck to it. It does leave them wide open at times, and they have been punished, but they also have looked extremely exciting and enterprising in attack. They have multiple players that can hurt you in James Maddison, Son, Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke.
Villa also have some enticing attacking options. Morgan Rogers has really impressed this season, Ollie Watkins is a fully established international and Jhon Duran has earned the reputation of one of the best super subs in Europe. They will know Spurs are weak at the back so I am expecting them to reign down the shots.

Players to Watch
There are some really good players on show on Sunday, one Spurs player who is in red-hot form for Spurs is Brennan Johnson. He received heavy criticism from some section of the Spurs early on in the season which caused him to delete his social media. It led to his manager calling out the fans in interviews but Johnson has responded really well, scoring key goals against Utd and Brighton and loves to get shots off. He is always looking to drive towards goal so I think he can get at least one shot on target in this clash.

Villa have some sharp shooters of their own in Watkins and Duran, but one player I have been very impressed with every time I’ve watched them is Morgan Rogers. He is very creative, picking up nice pockets of space playing just behind Watkins and he also like a shot. I think he was unfortunate to miss out on a place in the recent England squad. I think he could easily have a few shots on target this Sunday.

Who is going to win?
As I mentioned above, most bookies see this as a very close encounter and I feel the same. Home form could play a part in this, and Spurs do play well at home, but they have a leaky defence and that got even weaker on Wednesday when Micky van de Ven went off with what looked like a bad hamstring injury. Villa, meanwhile, are in a little bit of a rut having not won in their last two but Emery won’t panic and they remain a tough team to beat.
I think both teams will score but they will cancel each other out in a draw. Both of these teams will, of course, be going all out for the win. Spurs certainly need the three points to get themselves back in contention after a few mixed results in the league while Villa will want to remain in the top four positions.
I think it has the looks of a really good game, expect a great atmosphere inside one of the best stadium’s in the country and hopefully plenty of goals.
