We had a full midweek schedule in leagues 1 and 2 which delivered all the usual drama you expect in the EFL. Let’s take a look at our latest EFL acca.
Saturday, 5th April
Luton vs
Leeds
Since their 4-0 drubbing at Burnley when the writing looked on the wall, Luton have showed real fight. They have picked up 7 points in the 3 games since then, including away wins at Cardiff and Hull. The win at Cardiff was massive, as it leaves them just two points behind them and safety. It has been an awful season following relegation from the Premier League, but there is still fight left in the Hatters to ensure it is not a double relegation.
It is getting very nervy for Leeds. After conceding a late equaliser to Swansea they are now level on points with Burnley, but remain in second on goal difference. The famous ‘Leeds are falling apart again’ will be heard by their rivals if they don’t start winning games again. Leeds will not want to drop into the playoffs, we all know their record in those.
I don’t think Leeds will get a win here, but I can see them picking up a point.
Draw @ 14/5
Reading vs
Wycombe
What Reading are currently doing with everything going on off the pitch is remarkable. Yes, they suffered a setback at Blackpool on Tuesday, but they are still 7th in the table and primed for a run at the playoffs. All the manager and players can do is focus on on the pitch matters, while praying the ownership issue gets resolves as quickly as possible.
Things are much more calm for Wycombe off the pitch, and they could be in for a really exciting finish to the season on the pitch as well. They are in a shootout with Wrexham for second place and automatic promotion. They find themselves 3 points behind the Welsh club but do have a game in hand a better goal difference. They need to keep winning.
This is a tough one to call as Reading never say die but I think Wycombe’s need for points here means they will edge it.
Wycombe to win @ 7/8
Walsall vs
Port Vale
This top of the table clash is the game of the weekend in league 2. Walsall have been top for so long, at one point they were 13 points clear, but they go into this one only 2 points ahead of their opponents who sit in third. The Saddlers did pick up a valuable draw at promotion rivals Doncaster on Tuesday thanks to a last minute Danny Johnson goal, and they will need more of that fight and bottle for the run in.
Vale turned in their best performance in ages on Tuesday, beating Bradford comfortably and really staking their claim for an automatic promotion place. That is two wins in a row now against promotion rivals for Vale, and it has come at the best possible time. They can really take hold of this league if this momentum continues.
I think Vale a lot of momentum now, and fancy them to get a win here on the road.
Port Vale to win @ 5/2
