The promotion race in the Championship looks like it could go all the way. Just 5 points separate Burnley in third from Leeds at the top. As ever in the EFL, it’s tense, nervous and dramatic as we begin to enter the final run in.
What will this weekend provide? Here is our latest acca.
Saturday, 8th March
Burnley vs
Luton
Well, it finally happened. Burnley conceded a league goal for the first time in 2025, quite remarkable when you consider we are now in March. Despite that, they still secured a vital win at Cardiff in mid week as they continue to chase down Sheff Utd and Leeds at the top of the table. This Clarets team has all the qualities you look for in a promotion chasing squad and they have a manager who has been there and done it, you wouldn’t bet against them.
Luton earned a very rare win last week, beating Portsmouth 1-0 to lift them to third bottom of the table. It must be a springboard now or they face the very real prospect of a double dip and playing league one football next season, quite a drop for a team playing in the Prem last season. Nothing has gone right for the Hatters this year, and despite that win last week, it still looks bleak.
I think Burnley will have too much for the hapless Hatters.
Burnley win @ 8/15
Wrexham vs
Rotherham
We all know the Wrexham story by now. The ambitious Welsh club are looking to make it a double promotion after seemingly finding life in league one very comfortable so far. They sit in third after a 1-0 victory over Huddersfield on Tuesday night thanks to a Steven Fletcher goal. They have a lot of firepower and the rock solid defence to match, and that is a winning combination.
The season hasn’t really gone to plan for Rotherham. Much was expected of Steve Evans’ men after a heavy summer of recruitment and the stated ambition of promotion from Evans himself. It hasn’t worked out like that and the Millers currently sit in mid table. They have won their last two, though, and Evans will have them fired up for this one.
This has the makings of a fiery game, which I think Wrexham will win.
Wrexham to win @ 49/50
Harrogate vs
Carlisle
Although they are still in a fight and will be looking over their shoulder, the 4 points gained in their last two are massive for Harrogate. Their point at Port Vale on Tuesday was particularly impressive, given Vale are challenging near the top of the table and the respective budgets of the two clubs. This is a chance for them to really pull away from danger at home to the bottom club.
That bottom club, Carlisle, have just started to find some form. They grabbed a win at Barrow last week which was followed up by a good point against league leaders Walsall on Tuesday night. They have a very experienced manager at the helm in Mark Hughes and enough quality there to get out of this.
I think Carlisle will continue with their momentum and pick up a huge win on the road.
Carlisle win @ 7/4
EFL Acca
Games with a lot riding on them at both ends of their respective leagues this week. I was 5 minutes from winning last week’s acca, hopefully more luck this time around.
