A week is a long time in the EFL. Since our last article, Bolton have sacked the 2nd longest serving manager in the league, while down in Plymouth, their manager said a player he picked to be in the team didn’t even turn up to the game.

It is the madcap world of the English Football League, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Preston got a big win on Tuesday night, travelling down South and winning 2-1 at Watford thanks to a brace from Milutin Osmajić. It gives them more breathing space from the relegation spots, which was a real worry earlier into the season as they move more towards mid table. They has been some discontent among the Preston fanbase about the style of football on show, but staying in the league is paramount and they look set to achieve that goal.

Middlesbrough don’t want to be in this league next season, with promotion the aim for Michael Carrick’s men. An excellent 2-0 win over West Brom on Tuesday saw Boro climb to fifth and firmly in the playoff places. Ben Doak, who has been so impressive on loan from Liverpool, added another great goal to his collection. Boro do look set to lose Emmanuel Latte-Lath, however, and he will take some replacing.

I think Boro are in good form and will travel to Lancashire and pick up three points.

Middlesbrough win @ 6/5

After a few games without a win, Stockport got that three point feeling back last weekend with a 3-1 victory at Reading. Isaac Olaofe, Callum Connolly and Jack Diamond were on the scoresheet to leave County occupying the last playoff place in the league. It is easy to forget that this is Stockport’s first season at this level in a long time, and they have taken to it like a duck to water. Yes, they may have lost Louie Barry, but that doesn’t look to have stopped them.

It has not been such an easy transition to the league for Crawley, who also achieved promotion with Stockport last season. They picked up a point at home to fellow strugglers Burton last week when it really needed to be all three. They are four points from safety but do have two games in hand. Goals have been a problem all season for the Red Devils and they need to find the goals from somewhere soon to lift themselves out of trouble.

I think Stockport will have too much for a Crawley side who don’t score enough goals.

Stockport win @ 9/20

Doncaster vs  Harrogate Town Badge Harrogate

It was a big win for Doncaster at Gillingham last week, keeping them firmly in the promotion hunt in league 2. As is normally the case with this league, aside from Walsall at the top, it is very congested, with Doncaster currently in sixth but only three points from second. Luke Molyneux got the winner last week and he will be key for them in the run in, starting with a Yorkshire derby against Harrogate this weekend.

A seven point return from their last three games has seen Harrogate climb away from danger at the foot of the league. They have also added some players this month in an effort to ensure they remain a football league club this season. On Tuesday they picked up a point at home to Colchester to keep their mini unbeaten run going.

Although Harrogate have improved recently, I think Doncaster will pick up a win here.
