All eyes will be on the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9th for Super Bowl LIX. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are once again set to feature in the big game and are aiming to make history by becoming the first side to win three straight Super Bowl titles.
The Chiefs managed to reach this game by defeating an excellent Buffalo Bills team, led by possible MVP winner Josh Allen, 32-29 in a pulsating AFC Championship game. Mahomes, as he usually does in the postseason, turned it on. He is 1-4 against Allen in the regular season but 4-0 against him in the playoffs.
Standing between the Chiefs and history is the Philadelphia Eagles, who dominated the Washington Commanders in the NFC title game, winning 55-23. This will be the fifth time the Eagles will play in a Super Bowl and second in three years. In 2023, the Eagles lost to the Chiefs, 38-35 and their sole Super Bowl victory came when they beat Tom Brady and the Patriots 41-33.
The Chiefs are in the middle of a dynasty, reaching the Super Bowl in five of the past six seasons and lifting the Lombardi Trophy three times during that run. Last year, the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in the Super Bowl.

When these two teams clashed in the Super Bowl in 2023, we were treated to a classic, but a lot has changed on both teams since then, and this could be a very different game. I wouldn’t be surprised if this iteration of the Chiefs Eagles in the Super Bowl is much more defensive.
I say that because both teams aren’t built to be as explosive on offense as they were two years ago, particularly the Chiefs. The Eagles do carry so amazing weapons, but it is a different offense. They are one of the most run first teams I have seen for a long time, and the ground game is powered by Saquon Barkley, who has been a revelation. His 2,005 rushing yards on the season has seen a lot of people claim he is the MVP and turned the Eagles into the most dangerous rushing team in the league.
With the ground game so effective, the Eagles have taken the pressure off Jalen Hurts, who hasn’t been as prolific through the air as he was in 2023. He is still capable of taking over a game, he threw for 248 yards and a touchdown and ran for three touchdowns against the Commanders, but Barkley is the headline act.
Meanwhile, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was the game MVP two years ago, but didn’t even make the Pro Bowl this year as he threw for 3,928 with 26 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. The Chiefs have relied on their defense, which has been strong against the run all season and will need to be again when facing Barkley if they are to stand any chance. They have won so many close games this year and that is because their defense M kept them in it.
Amazingly, the Chiefs have played in 12 one-score games over the season, leading to many pundits and ex players thinking this is a massive opportunity for the Eagles. But they won all of those games, with the latest being that AFC Championship win over the Bills.

Super Bowl LIX Predictions
First, I am leaning towards the Chiefs to make history and achieve the three-peat. I think this could easily go down to the wire, and Kansas City has proven all season they win games when it is close. It is hard to bet against Barkley and the Eagles, I believe they have the best roster in the entire NFL on paper and Barkely is simply unstoppable. Their offensive line is the best in the league and in A.J Brown and DaVonta Smith they also have an excellent receiving tandem. Oh, and Jalen Hurts isn’t bad, either.
So why am I picking the Chiefs to win? Because Mahomes, Chris Jones, Travis Kelce and co just get it done. In playoff time, all of their stars step up and I am expecting that to happen again. This will be a stern test, and I am sure the Eagles will have some success on the day. Indeed, in my picks I have said Barkley will score the first TD and set a marker.
But I think the Chiefs will come back and outlast Philly, with Xavier Worthy also getting a TD. He has become more of a force as the season has gone on and his speed could be vital as Mahomes looks to stretch the field.
