What Is a Double Bet?

A double bet is a wager on the outcome of two separate sporting events which are added to the same bet slip. The odds of your two selections are combined, and the bet only pays out if both of your predictions are correct.

For example, a double bet would be backing Man City to win the league and Erling Haaland to win the Golden Boot award. If Man City wins the league, but Erling Haaland doesn’t win the Golden Boot, and vice versa, you don’t win anything.

The other thing to remember about double bets is they feature a single stake, so you’d bet £10 on Haaland and Man City rather than £10 on each selection. Same punters also like to place additional single bets alongside their double bet so they win something if one of their predictions is right.

It adds excitement but also risk, as a double bet increases the risk of losing the lot if one of the events does not win. To reduce this risk, find a bookie that offers each way on specific events which means you will at least get some money back if one of your bets doesn’t win or finishes second, third, or fourth.

How Does the Double Bet Calculator Work?

A double bet may be a little more complex than a single bet, but it’s still pretty simple. Our Double Bet Calculator simply combines the odds for both of your selections and then, based on your stake, reveals your potential returns and profit.

Here are the formulas involved if you want to do the maths yourself:

  1. Convert fractional odds to decimal odds by dividing the fraction and adding 1
  2. Multiply the two decimal odds
  3. Multiply the combined odds by your stake, the answer is your potential return
  4. Minus your stake from your potential to show your potential profit

Here is an example to show you how maths works out in the wild. Let’s say you bet £20 on Carlos Alcaraz to win the Men’s US Open at 3/2 and Emma Raducanu to win the Women’s US Open at 40/1, then you do the following actions:

  1. 3/2 + 1 = 2.5 , 40/1 + 1 = 41
  2. 2.5 x 41 = 102.5
  3. 102.5 x £20 = £2,050 return
  4. £2050 – £20 – £2,030 profit

We have designed our Double Bet Calculator so anyone can use it. To get started, simply:

FAQs

  • How to win a double bet?
For a double bet to pay out, both of your selections need to win. For example, if you back Man City and Arsenal, then both teams need to win for your double bet to score you a return.
  • How do you calculate a double bet?
To calculate a double bet, convert the fractional odds to decimal odds (divide the fraction and add 1), multiply both decimal odds and multiply the combined odds by your stake.
  • Are double bets worth it?

Most sharp punters stay away from double bets and accumulators and prefer singles due to the better odds. However, double bets can be worth it, especially if you find two undervalued favourites.
