What if I told you there is a way to keep your passion for accumulator bets without having to deal with the usual nail-biting risk of losing it all because of only one bet?
There are bets that can offer you the juicy odds of an Accumulator but with a safety net. They’re called system bets. By placing system bets, you can aspire for high winnings without worrying about one wrong pick sinking your ship.
You probably think this is an intricate strategy that will take ages to master, and I totally get that. And I’m here to tell you that no, it’s not that complicated!
Stick with me on this guide, and I guarantee you will be ready to test your first system bet on the Premier League fixtures this weekend.
What is a System Bet?
A system bet is a type of wager that covers multiple combinations of outcomes from a set of events. Although at first sight, it might seem like nothing more than a glorified Acca, the system bet has one crucial difference.
Unlike the accumulator bet, where you must hit all selections to win, the system bet allows you to make a wrong pick and still win.
The system bet must have a minimum of three legs. As we already said, the structure is nearly identical to Acca bets. However, there’s one crucial difference that makes this strategy unique.
The fact that not all legs need to be correct for you to get a return from your stake makes it very popular among big-time punters looking for a way to distribute the risk and lower the chances of facing a massive loss.
Types of System Bets
System bets come in various types, each offering a different level of coverage and potential returns. While understanding some can be a walk in the park, others can be quite the puzzle, even for the most experienced betting veterans. Here are the most common ones:
- Trixie: A Trixie is one of the simplest forms of system bets since you only need three events. This system bet contains 4 bets in total, one Acca bet containing all three events and three two-way combinations. To win the Trixie, you must get at least two events right.
- Patent: The Patent system bet is very similar to the Trixie. It consists of the same 4 bets plus a single bet on each of the three events. What is exciting about the Patent is that you can expect some return even if only one of your picks wins.
- Yankee: The Yankee system bet allows you to get a return even if you end up with only two correct selections. However, unlike the Trixie and the Patent, the Yankee system bet is a bit more complicated and requires 11 bets across four selections. That includes six doubles, four trebles, and one four-fold Acca.
- Lucky 15: If you want to take the Yankee system bet to another level, you should try the Lucky 15. The Lucky 15 system bet consists of 11 bets across four selections. However, in this case, you add 4 more single bets. One on each event.
- Heinz: Named after the iconic 57 varieties slogan, a Heinz bet incorporates 57 bets across six selections. These 57 bets are 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four-folds, 6 five-folds, and one six-fold Acca. The Heinz system bet can cost a pretty penny, so if you are new to sports betting, it would be wise to stay away.
- Super Heinz: If you thought the regular Heinz bet was a handful, wait until you meet its older brother, who is most likely on steroids. This system is called Super Heinz and involves one more selection than its younger brother. It involves 120 bets, including 21 doubles, 35 trebles, 35 four-folds, 21 five-folds, 7 six-folds, and one seven-fold accumulator, and people should steer clear from it unless they have the wallet and the sports betting pedigree.
- Goliath: Most punters will never have the betting chops to try out a system bet that involves 247 bets across eight selections. However, it would be a shame for us not to mention the absolute governor of betting systems – the notorious Goliath. If you ever get tempted to try it, remember that it involves 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 four-folds, 56 five-folds, 28 six-folds, 8 seven-folds, and one eight-fold accumulator.
How to Place a System Bet

- Create an account at a legal online bookmaker.
- Deposit funds into your sports betting account.
- Select your preferred sport from the list on the left and make your picks.
- Select the system you like, like a Trixie or a Patent.
- Enter the amount you want to wager and confirm.
System Bet Example
While the explanations above should be just enough for you to grasp the idea behind each system bet, what better way to explain than by using an example.
To make things easier for you, we created a Trixie using matchups from the 1st round of the last Premier League season:
Matches:
- Chelsea vs. Manchester City
- West Ham vs. Aston Villa
- Newcastle vs. Southampton

Selections:
- Chelsea to win
- West Ham to win
- Newcastle to win
Our Trixie Bet:
- Double 1: Chelsea to win + West Ham to win
- Double 2: Chelsea to win + Newcastle to win
- Double 3: West Ham to win + Newcastle to win
- Treble: Chelsea to win + West Ham to win + Newcastle to win
Now let’s look at all the possible outcomes:
- Scenario 1: All three teams win, so you win all four bets.
- Scenario 2: Two teams win, one loses or draws, so you win one of the doubles, which gets you a return.
- Scenario 3: Only one team wins, so you get no payout since a Trixie requires at least two correct selections.

Our Thoughts on System Bets
System betting can be a clever way to improve your betting game, but don’t be fooled – there is no foolproof system for outsmarting the bookies. Simple system bets like the Trixie and Patent can provide you with a decent safety net without breaking the bank. Meanwhile, the more intricate systems can promise substantially higher profits but at a hefty price.

That’s why we encourage you to dive in, broaden your betting knowledge and eventually dip your toes into the system betting waters in a responsible manner that will not jeopardize your mental health and financial stability.
