FanDuel has a very broad sports coverage with heaps of different wagering opportunities, and it takes some beating. It is no surprise that on average, FanDuel Sportsbook has nearly one million daily users, and the platform has a lot more to offer than wagers and parlay combinations.

Only licensed sportsbooks made our list, and the likes of DraftKings or Caesars also operate in many of the states where FanDuel is available. So you can make the switch pretty comfortably, and won’t have to cross out many options on our shortlist. #1. DraftKings Sportsbook
DraftKings and FanDuel were planning a merger in 2016, but the Federal Trade Commission banned the move. As the two most popular DFS platforms, it was projected they would own 90% of the DFS market. In terms of sports betting, DraftKings has practically the same coverage and types of bets as FanDuel. On the DraftKings app, you can form parlay combinations, toggle to DraftKings SGP mode, and even create SGPx wagers. After thorough testing, we felt the DraftKings parlay tools are a little more diverse than FanDuel. But on the other hand, FanDuel has a more intuitive interface, with neat little icons such as Cash Out or SGP neatly displayed on your bet slip.
DraftKings has the bigger share of player bets and game props, something eagle-eyed bettors can take advantage of. Should you need some insights, you can open the Stats Hub for detailed info about line movements, where the public is betting, and team or player stats. The live betting experience is similarly exciting, with lots of flash bets, cash out functions, and live game trackers.
Banking is another area where DraftKings is just so slightly ahead of FanDuel, as it offers a $5 minimum deposit limit, against FanDuel’s $10. And in terms of bonuses, you get a lot of the same types of offers, including bonus bets, parlay insurance, and profit boosts. DraftKings is available in more states than FanDuel, and with additional DFS, Racing, and Casino apps, DraftKings really does it all.

When Caesars Entertainment merged with William Hill back in 2023, Caesars Sportsbook got a hefty makeover. The app is available in over 20 legal sports betting states and has over 20 sports categories. Caesars has nearly the same range of betting markets too, with futures, pregame wagers, player bets and props, as well as loads of live betting markets. The interface, like FanDuel, is quite easy to navigate and has displays for SGP and Cash Out wagers, which shows up on the mobile app neatly. We also have to commend the parlay betting functions, as Caesars provides plenty of SGP and parlay betting combinations.

One area where Caesars has a slight edge over FanDuel is in its live streams. Caesars has a $5 minimum deposit, and you can withdraw from as little as $1, something we haven’t found elsewhere. The banking options are pretty diverse, so you should find 2 or more comfortable gateways through which you can transfer your funds. In terms of bonuses, Caesars also does profit boost tokens, parlay insurance and bonus bets. Bet365 is a UK based sportsbook that came to the US shortly after sports betting was legalized at a Federal level. This platform offers a very fresh take on sports betting, with unparalleled sports coverage and betting markets. You will find wagers offered on everything from domestic baseball leagues in Japan to Lacrosse leagues and international cricket series. Naturally, bet365 also has extensive coverage on US favorites such as NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, soccer and UFC, with a comparable set of props to what you get at FanDuel.
The bonuses are very different at bet365, something that directly affects the way you place bets on this platform. It does daily odds boost offers and occasionally throws in a bonus bet offer. But the majority of the promotional initiatives are fixed offers that apply to all your wagers. For instance, there is a fixed parlay boost offer, giving you anywhere from 3% up to 100% boosts on your parlays – depending on how many legs you put into your betslip. Or, the Early Payout offers on NFL, NBA, MLB, and so on.
But we also have to point out a few shortcomings. Bet365 isn’t available in as many states as FanDuel. Where the other top American sportsbooks are available in 20+ states, bet365 is only legal in 10+ states. While bet365 has loads of banking options, including gateways that are more popular outside the US, such as Paysafecard or Skrill, the lower limit for depositing and withdrawing is $10. Except for PayPal, which has a lower limit of $30 for either depositing or withdrawing. But outside these considerations, bet365 is really worth checking out. It has a very different set of betting features and tools from FanDuel.

BetMGM is run by MGM Resorts International, a well known company that runs some of the biggest US landbased casinos on the Vegas Strip and across the country. The sportsbook is available in many of the states where betting has been legalized, and it covers 20+ sports categories. One of the key selling points of BetMGM is the nifty parlay building tools you get to make custom wagers with. You can form parlays very quickly through the Easy Parlay tool, dipping into point spreads, moneylines or totals across various top US sports.
BetMGM has a good range of player bets, game props, and team bets, but it is quite noticeably smaller than the huge volume you get at FanDuel. We aren’t saying that BetMGM is limited in that regard, but if you are coming from any app like DraftKings or FanDuel, you may be a bit disappointed with the props on offer at BetMGM. Nevertheless, this sportsbook does all the basics, with all kinds of round robins, parlay, SGP and SGP+ (multiple SGPs combined). In terms of promotions, BetMGM does not leave you hanging.
This platform has many different types of rewards initiatives, with regular odds boost tokens, betting jackpot pools, cash back promos, parlay insurance, and a few Early Payout offers. Fanatics Inc. is one of the biggest Sports Merch retailers and has its very own sportsbook. The company acquired PointsBet in the US, and after rebranding and restructuring the book, they launched their very own Fanatics Sportsbook app. The platform has a great reach across the US, operating in over 20 states, and is fully optimised for mobile use. Fanatics has a tremendous range of sports coverage, and has plenty of props and player bets to form intricate SGPs and parlay wagers.
Though Fanatics only hit the market in 2023, this sportsbook has already won over a good portion of the industry. It offers a plethora of live streams and betting markets, including NFL game streams. We also really like the bonus variety. They have bonus bets, boosts, and give a little back to members through the loyalty rewards initiative. You can earn site credits for every wager you place, and you can then redeem your credits balance in the form of bonus bets, or use it to buy merchandise at Fanatics Inc.
Fanatics Sportsbook would rate higher on our list, if it only had a desktop site. You can only access Fanatics through iOS or Android apps, which is very restrictive, and quite a big blow when you think of just how high the competition is at this level. Nevertheless, Fanatics is a worthy contender for anyone looking for a good FanDuel alternative. It also has loads of banking options, and a low minimum deposit limit set at $5. Honorary Mention: ESPN Bet
ESPN Bet just falls outside our top 5, but we didn’t want to leave it out. It is more suited to anyone who bets on soccer, NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL or UFC. Featured sports, or sports events, have plenty of betting markets, including various props bets and player wagers, though if you peek at the “niche sports”, the options are very limited. But if you are going to bet on the NFL or NBA, you will find enough wagers to build intriguing parlays and thought provoking SGP bets.
The sportsbook has a wide range of promotions, including reduced juice offers, Early Payout, parlay insurance, retirement guarantees, parlay clubs, and more. They have quite an intriguing approach to rewards, with offers we haven’t really seen elsewhere such as 24 hour insurance or 3 hour protection wagers.
Plus, if you make an account with ESPN and link it to your sportsbook account, you can get a little bonus. And it is worth doing so, as you can make the jump to ESPN for betting statistics and projections, to help you form an idea of how the game could pan out. We only wish that ESPN Bet was available in more states – it is a handful behind the likes of FanDuel, DraftKings and Caesars.

Betting Apps Like FanDuel Outside Regulated States
There are still many states that haven’t legalized sports betting, some of which have not shown any tangible interest yet. You can’t use FanDuel, or any other licensed sportsbook in these states, but that doesn’t mean you have no options at all. Enter social sportsbooks. These are platforms where you can bet on sports but without having to use a dime.
Social sportsbooks do not fall into the same legal category as sportsbooks, and therefore are available in lots of the states where sports betting is not legal – as well as states that have legal sports betting. They don’t use real money wagers, but instead you will have to fund your sports betting predictions using virtual currencies, such as “Gold Coins”. When you sign up, you get a welcome package consisting of these coins, and can top up your balance through daily logins, mail in bonuses, and social media giveaways.
They generally have a secondary virtual currency as well, a sweepstakes currency. It also has a feed where you can share your bets, re-bet what others are betting, form squads with friends and enter riveting contests.

Areas Where FanDuel Could Improve
FanDuel prides itself as being among the very best sportsbooks in America, and there isn’t much you can’t do on the betting platform. Not many books can beat FanDuel’s huge array of player bets, props, team bets, and alternate markets that are extremely useful for parlay and SGP betting. But there are a few areas where the offering may fall slightly below the competition.
For instance, game trackers and statistics. Through FanDuel Research and FanDuel TV+ you can get loads of useful betting info, but it doesn’t have the same comprehensive set of sports data and game trackers as, say, bet365, ESPN Bet or DraftKings.
FanDuel doesn’t really have a proper loyalty program either. We won’t count the VIP program, as this is really reserved for the high rollers. You could argue that FanDuel doesn’t need a loyalty program, as it is quite generous in handing out profit boosts, no sweat bets and bonus bet offers. Especially when you lose big, it seems to bounce back with offers to get you back onto your feet.
But some bettors prefer having a fixed loyalty programs, and earn comp points or tier credits for their real money wagers. BetMGM and Caesars do this well and with a plethora of external rewards and initiatives. But for sports betting alone, Fanatics is the one to go to for a true loyalty program, offering comp points for all your real money wagers.
Of course, each to their own, but these are some of the areas we think FanDuel is lacking.
Troubleshooting Common FanDuel Issues
Unfortunately, whatever platform you are using, there are bound to be occasional technical issues or glitches. We have encountered issues with all major sportsbooks, but thankfully, most are very easily resolvable. One issue that keeps cropping up is connectivity problems.
It happens mostly when you try to sign in, but can also occur when you are signed in and placing bets, although less frequently. If your app is taking too long to load or you can’t get past the connectivity issue error window, you can do the following:
- Check that your internet connection is stable (public WiFi is not ideal, switch to data if you don’t have a private network to use)
- Make sure your VPN/proxy is turned off
- Clear cache on your mobile app
- Check whether there are any app updates you haven’t downloaded yet
Closing the app and restarting it after you have made the changes should fix the issue. VPNs are especially not tolerated at FanDuel or other licensed books. It is a direct breach of the Terms of Service, and something they will instantly spot through their geolocation trackers.
Should you still run into the same old connectivity or verification error windows, it may be because the FanDuel servers are having issues, or the platform is conducting maintenance, something that will be displayed on the site. Technical issues, such as temporarily suspended betting markets or unavailable cashouts are something that you may run into from time to time. Most likely, it is because the odds are being recalculated. The problem generally doesn’t last more than a few seconds.
Which FanDuel Alternative is Best For You
FanDuel is arguably the most popular betting app in America, and there are millions of bettors who swear by it. Of course, we can’t say one app is better than the other, it is all based on personal preference. We would say, though, that DraftKings is the best possible contender to win you over from FanDuel, as the portfolio of bets and rewards are quite similar. Sure, they have different features and exclusive offers, but the sheer volume of bets is just as large at DraftKings, if not slightly larger.
BetMGM, bet365 and Caesars all offer very different takes on sports betting. For something completely different, you can sign up to a social sportsbook and place bets without spending any money. Though don’t expect them to have the same volume of betting markets or wagering features as real money sportsbooks. They tend to have fewer betting markets, with basic parlay betting or SGP functions. But with the addition of sweepstakes games, gamified betting contests and leaderboards, they really change the way you approach betting.
