It’s FA Cup weekend, but there is still plenty of EFL action happening away from the cup. Let’s get to our latest EFL acca.
Saturday, February 8th
Sunderland vs
Watford
This is turning into some season for Sunderland and they added another great chapter to the story with a 3-2 derby win at Middlesbrough on Monday night. Wilson Isidor, who is proving to be somewhat of a cult hero already, got another goal and the Mackems are currently sitting pretty in fourth place. After a good transfer window that saw Sunderland sign stars like Enzo Le Fee, they will be hoping to kick on with this promotion push now.
Watford have lost their last three which has seen them go from playoff challengers to being stuck in mid table. Manager Tom Cleverley has come under pressure from the owners, not the fans, but you feel like, for once, Watford need to show some stability in the manager’s position if they are to achieve any success.
I expect the feel good factor to continue in the North East.

Bolton vs
Crawley
New Bolton manager Steven Schumacher will get a taste of a home game in charge of Bolton for the first time this weekend. There was no new manager bounce evident last week as they went down 1-0 to Reading, but they are still well placed to make a charge on the playoffs and certainly have the squad to do it.
It is getting more and more desperate for Crawley with each passing week. Last minute heartbreak saw them lose to Wrexham last week and this looks like another daunting fixture. It was always going to be hard for them to survive after an unlikely promotion last season but they need wins, fast.
This looks like a home banker.

Salford vs
Tranmere
It was certainly an emotional rollercoaster for Salford on Tuesday night. 3-0 down at home to Bromley with half an hour left and looking like game over, the Ammies roared back to draw 3-3 and it would have felt like a win for the home side. It has been a good season for Salford so far, the playoffs are in reach but they do need to tighten up at the back.
It is dark, dark times in Birkenhead. Tranmere have won 6 games all season and their latest humiliation came at the hands of Colchester last week, a 3-1 defeat at Prenton Park. That led to calls for the manager, Nigel Adkins, to be sacked but the chairman has said he will stick with him. This team can’t score goals, there is unrest in the fanbase and they are staring relegation in the face.
Salford to be comfortable and take three points.
