There are so many twists and turns at the top and bottom of every division in the EFL. Just when you think you have things figured out, you get slapped in the face.
It is one of the many reasons why we love it. The EFL is nothing if not unpredictable. Let’s look at an acca for this weekend’s action.
Saturday, 15th March
Coventry City vs
Sunderland
It has been quite a ride since Frank Lampard took the reigns at Coventry. Before their defeat in mid week, Coventry had been on a run of 5 straight wins and 9 wins from their previous 10 matches. That run propelled them from just above the drop zone to into the playoff places, although that progress was stopped with a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Derby on Tuesday. Lampard will know it is now very important they bounce back quickly.
Sunderland earned a point at home to Preston on Tuesday thanks to a fabulous strike by Romain Mundle, but their hopes of automatic promotion look to be over as Leeds, Burnley and Sheffield Utd have pulled away from them. However, it is vital the Black Cats carry some momentum into the playoffs if that is where they are to finish. The side is full of young and exciting talent and there is no reason they can’t still achieve success this season.
This is a tough one to call, I think both teams will score and it will be a draw.

Bolton Wanderers vs
Stockport County
I think this is one of the best fixtures in the EFL this weekend, as playoff chasing Bolton meet Stockport. Bolton manager Steven Schumacher has made a big impact since taking over in January, as the Trotters have moved up into the top 6 and have done so in style, scoring plenty of goals. They were involved in another thriller on Tuesday, but this time tasted defeat, losing 3-2 at Bristol Rovers. Bolton will be hoping that was just a bump in the road, and this would be a perfect way to bounce back.
Stockport sit once place above Bolton in fifth, enjoying an excellent season back at this level following promotion from league 2 last season. They come into this game off the back of two successive draws but striker Benoný Breki Andrésson, who they signed in January, has scored three in his last four and looks to be acclimating to English football well. If Stockport can finish in the playoffs, that will be an excellent season.
I think this could be a really exciting game, but I am going for Bolton to win it.

Morecambe vs
Barrow
Morecambe are in the thick of the relegation battle at the bottom of league 2, and know they simply have to win home games like this. They took the lead last week at MK Dons but just couldn’t hold on, eventually losing 2-1 to remain second from bottom. Scoring goals hasn’t been a massive issue, it’s keeping them out at the other end that has long been the problem. They will hope three points this weekend can start to build some momentum.
Barrow followed up their very impressive win at Notts County with a comfortable home win over Accrington last week. Manager Andy Whing only joined in January and will be looking to put his imprint onto things before a summer where no doubt he will want to sign his own players and put his stamp on the squad. They are safely in mid-table, so expect him to maybe experiment in some games.
Morecambe to win @2/1
