After a break for FA Cup action we return for another round of Premier League football this weekend. The last ever Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park provided all manner of controversy, drama and, ultimately, red cards. Everton’s last minute equaliser sparking ‘limbs’ in the three sides of the ground while Liverpool manager Arne Slot saw red, in more ways than one.
It is games like that why we love the Premier League. Here’s our latest acca.
Fulham vs
Nottingham Forest
Details: Saturday, February 15th, 3.00 pm, Craven Cottage
The last time we saw Fulham in action they were winning 2-1 at Newcastle to leave them in 9th place in the table and just four points off the European places. A lot has been made about the jobs Slot and Nuno are doing at Liverpool and Forest, respectively, this season, but Marco Silva is doing fantastic work in West London. Another shout out must go to Alex Iwobi, who is having a fantastic season as the Cottagers look to secure a place in the top six.
We have talked about the job Nuno has done in this space before as Forest have surprised everyone so far this season. Their last PL game was another ridiculous result, as Forest absolutely hammered Brighton 7-0. Chris Wood, who is having some season, scored a hattrick as those Tricky Trees dazzled on Trent side once again. Champions League football is within reach.
This is an attractive looking game between two teams with European aspirations, but I am going for a home win.
Fulham to win @ 23/20
Man City vs
Newcastle
Details: Saturday, February 15th, 3.00 pm, Etihad Stadium
Oh dear. It was another late collapse on Tuesday for Man City in their Champions League playoff against Real Madrid. After getting a 2-1 lead with 10 minutes to play, they succumbed to two goals in the closing stages, with Jude Bellingham getting the winner. It has happened all too often so far this season, and Pep admits they are struggling. This isn’t the same City side we have been so used to seeing over the years, they are vulnerable.
Newcastle come into this on the back of two cup wins. Beating Arsenal in the League Cup was a huge moment for the club, as they now have the chance to win their first major trophy since 1969. Of course, Champions League football will the aim in the league, but winning some silverware would see Eddie Howe go down as a Toon legend.
This is a really tough one to call, City look poor and Newcastle might have minds elsewhere. I am going for City to edge it.
Man City to win @ 10/11
Tottenham vs
Man Utd
Details: Sunday, February 16th, 4.30 pm, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
More problems for Ange Postecoglou as Spurs crashed out of the FA Cup to Aston Villa last week, following their meek exit in the League Cup semi finals to Liverpool. Yes, they have had loads of injuries, but even with players available their performances have left a lot to be desired. They are mid table in the league, out of all domestic cups with just the Europa League to focus on now. You feel Ange might have to win it to save his job.
Utd progressed in the FA Cup, just, thanks to a last minute Harry Maguire goal. They barely deserved it in truth, they were shocking for the most part but in the cup the only thing that matters is getting through. Rubem Amorim knows they are miles away from where they want to be, he will hope to make it to the summer without too much damage and get his own players in.
I am going for a high scoring draw in this one, both teams to score.
