The talk of the town in the Premier League is Manchester City, battered at home by Spurs last week to continue their losing streak. It didn’t get much better in midweek, as the Citizens threw away a three goal lead with 15 minutes left to draw at home to Feyenoord in the Champions League.
Their game at Liverpool this week is the pick of the bunch, let’s look at some week 13 action.
Crystal Palace vs Newcastle -Away Win
Details: Saturday, 30th November, 3.00 pm
It was an encouraging draw at Villa last weekend for Crystal Palace. They will be disappointed having been leading twice in the game to only come away with a point, but it is surely a point they would have taken before the game. Youngster Justin Devenny had a memorable debut, scoring to put the Londoners 2-1 ahead after Dean Henderson had saved a penalty. It is vital that Palace build on this to get away from danger.
Newcastle travel down South after suffering a shock home defeat on Monday Night to West Ham. The Toon had plenty of chances in the game but couldn’t take them and were duly punished in a 2-0 defeat. Once again, there has been lots of talk around Eddie Howe’s position moving forward, as the owners will want Champions League football. There is still plenty of time left in the season for Newcastle to secure that, but they can’t afford to many results like Monday Night.
I think Newcastle will bounce back and take the three points back to the North East.

Brentford vs Leicester – Home Win
Details: Saturday, 30th November, 3.00 pm
Brentford came away from Goodison Park last weekend with a well-earned point, especially when Christian Nørgaard was sent off in the first half. Thomas Frank’s men even looked the more likely to score at parts in the game, with Yoane Wissa, in particular, missing a golden chance. It just showed once again how tough the Bees are, mixing in nice football with a steel and toughness that has become a trademark of this team.
It has been a week of turmoil for Leicester. Following a home loss to Chelsea last week, the club decided to sack manager Steve Cooper, which came as a slight shock considering they are 16th and out of the relegation zone. Survival has to be the aim for Leicester this season and they are currently on track to do that. All eyes will be on who they appoint to replace Cooper and it is an appointment they have to get right.
I can’t see anything other than a routine home win here.

West Ham vs Arsenal – Away Win
Details: Saturday, 30th November, 5.30 pm
It is safe to say that not many saw West Ham’s win at Newcastle on Monday night coming. The pressure on manager Julen Lopetegui was immense, with some even suggesting a defeat would see him sacked. That win should provide him some breathing space, but things won’t get any easier with Arsenal rocking up to the London Stadium on Saturday. West Ham fans need to see some consistency from this team before they can be confident Lopetegui is the man.
After a sticky few weeks, things are looking up for Arsenal. They looked back to their scintillating best last week in a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest. The return of Martin Ødegaard can’t be underestimated, he makes this team tick, while the consistency and class of Bukayo Saka is through the roof. Arsenal followed up that Forest win with a 5-1 dismantling of Sporting in Portugal in midweek and they look back on song.
Although West Ham picked up an impressive win on Monday, I think Arsenal will get the win.

Man Utd vs Everton – Home Win
Details: Sunday, 1st December, 5.30 pm
It wasn’t exactly the dream game Ruben Amorim would have envisaged as he took charge of Man Utd for the first time last week. It couldn’t have started any better, with Marcus Rashford scoring after two minutes at Portman Road. But Ipswich slowly grew into the game and if anything Utd were lucky to come away with a point. If Amorim was unsure of the scale of the task he has, he would have been left with no doubts after the final whistle. This is not going to be a quick fix.
Loud boos greeted the final whistle at Goodison last week, as Everton were held to a goalless draw at home to 10-man Brentford. As is often the case with Sean Dyche’s men, they struggled to create anything of note. Defensively they are usually OK, but scoring has been a problem for a long time. Supporters are also increasingly unhappy with what they see as a negative, unattractive style of play.
Utd may have to be patient, but I think Amorim will get his first win as Utd boss this weekend.

Premier League Week 13 Acca
Two home wins and two away wins complete the acca this week. You never really know what to expect with Utd but Amorim will have had a week on the training ground with the players and I think the buzz of his first home game will see them through against a plucky Everton. Newcastle winning at Palace is far from certain, but I feel they will be keen to bounce back as soon as possible after defeat on Monday night.
